BankDhofar takes motor insurance beyond the basic policy
For many motorists, insurance is something to be purchased because it is mandatory. BankDhofar is seeking to change that perception by positioning motor insurance as a broader protection and assistance proposition, combining insurance coverage with services designed to help motorists when things go wrong.
Through its bancassurance model, BankDhofar provides motor insurance issued by Dhofar Insurance Company, allowing customers to access insurance alongside their banking relationship. The offering spans compulsory third-party cover and comprehensive insurance, supplemented by three enhanced options — Third Party Plus, Comprehensive Elite and Comprehensive Elite Plus.
The differentiation becomes more apparent in the higher levels of cover. Depending on the policy, motorists can obtain protection against collision, fire, explosion, theft, vandalism, natural disasters, storms, floods and other risks, as well as total loss and selected off-road incidents. Enhanced policies can also include UAE extensions, repairs at authorised agencies and approved workshops, hire-car services and zero-deductible treatment for certain claims such as windscreen damage.
But BankDhofar's proposition extends beyond the vehicle itself. Roadside assistance is a prominent feature, with services including towing and emergency assistance, while selected policies provide additional protection for items and circumstances that motorists may not traditionally associate with motor insurance.
That philosophy is most evident in Laha, BankDhofar's motor-insurance solution designed specifically for women. Launched in 2025, Laha combines conventional vehicle protection with a package of practical assistance services aimed at safety and convenience.
The package includes 24/7 emergency roadside assistance for flat tyres, battery problems, vehicle lockouts, mechanical breakdowns and accident recovery. It also provides towing of up to 100 kilometers, or OMR 55 compensation in lieu, as well as ambulance assistance in medical emergencies.
Laha goes further by extending protection to everyday items and family needs, including up to OMR 200 for mobile-phone damage, handbag protection and child-seat coverage.
This focus on assistance and lifestyle-related protection gives BankDhofar a distinctive proposition in a market where motor insurance can often be viewed primarily in terms of premium and claims.
Convenience is another pillar. BankDhofar promotes competitive premiums, instant policy issuance and access through its branch network and 24/7 customer service centre, while its recent communications emphasise efficient and customer-focused claims handling.
The result is a proposition that seeks to move motor insurance from a basic financial safeguard to a more comprehensive “protection and assistance” package.
For motorists, the distinction is significant: the value of the policy is not only what it pays after an accident, but also the assistance, convenience and additional protection available at the moment they need it most.
